Use of drones in the port area

Special provisions for the area of the Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg

From the shipping police's point of view of the HPA there's no threat of security or efficiency of maritime traffic due to the use of drones in the area of the national waterway and other port waters on the condition that the following will be applied:

The minium horizontal distance of 50 metres (250 m to military watercrafts) at the side of watercrafts, moored or moving, must be kept. The driveway mustn't be crossed below a horizontal distance of 200 metres (300 m to military watercrafts). Watercrafts have priority in any event; especially berthing and off casting ships mustn't be obstructed. Watercrafts may only be flown over in a vertical distance of 50 metres as long as the maximum approved altitude won't be passed. Those distances may be disregarded among moored watercrafts if the owner explicitly permitted the drone pilot to do so in a written form. Ascents and landings of drones of and on moving ships or swimming equipment are not allowed due to safety reasons.

As soon as the use of drones touches the rights of the HPA as an owner of (unlet) plots of land, further regulations are subject of change. Inquiries relating to this can be addressed to immobilienservice@hpa.hamburg.de if necessary.

In general:
This approval takes place with the preservation that third party rights as well as prohibitions, permit and approval requirements outside of the jurisdiction of the HPA will not be neglected. Data protection laws remain unaffected.
